Dave Aftandilian There is so much beauty in a summer day: a particular midyear shade to the blue sky, slowly drifting clouds, radiant sun warming our skin and lifting our hearts. Yet behind this beauty there is also menace: if we become too distracted, gentle warmth can quickly flare to fire that burns our forests to dead ash. I hear all this in Duplant & Bončina’s sometimes meditative, sometimes menacing compositions that call upon us to awaken, to act, to put out these fires before they become endless.
